Sand + boys = TROUBLE
As you all know Southern California is on fire. As of today there are 500,000 people who have been evacuated from their homes, 1,600 homes lost to the first, and hundreds of thousands of acres burnt. Our hearts and thoughts go to each person effected by this.
We, fortunately, have not been effected with the exception of smoke and ash. Wanting a little bit of fresh air and open space the boys and I ventured down to the beach. I hadn't really thought my plan through too well as most of the fires in Orange County are blowing smoke out to the ocean. The closer we got the redder the sky got. It was surreal.
When we got to the beach itself the air was not as bad as expected. There was a lot of smoke out over the ocean but we were breathing just fine.
The boys LOVE the ocean and I am so glad that one of my passions is evident in them. They immediately got into sand and played their hearts out. We stayed for almost three hours - it was heaven!
Within a half hour of being there though - well, I think I'll let the pictures and video tell the story. This kid cracks me up!
"Whoops Mom, my sandwich fell down! Oh no!"
"What to do? What to do?"
"Oh man, there is sand on my sandwich!"
"Well - it is a SANDwich!
(This video is from 15 minutes later after he had buried the sandwich several times!)

He's a boy that seems to be in touch with is… earthy side. He may not have minded the sand on that end, but I guess you'll just have to wait and see on the other. Best of luck on that one. ;)
We haven't been to the beach in awhile, but Isabella was the same way. She would just nuzzle her face right into the sand. It would be in her eyes, ears, neck, mouth...at least she only had 4 teeth the last time we went. I'm not sure how Walker did it with a mouth full of teeth to get the sand in. Yuk! I love your posts. We NEED to get together sometime!
Oh, one more thing. Someone told me about baby powder and the beach. Have you heard of it? After your kids are all sandy and you're ready to leave, spread baby powder all over them. It's like oil and water; it seperates the sand from their body and then you don't get sand in your car. It works wonders.
Akkkk, sand in the food! That's one thing about the beach I wouldn't mind not having..
I had a good laugh with that one. Can I just say that I can see Landon doing that, but NOT Liza! Is it a boy thing to be okay with that? Is it age? That's why kids are so funny
Pedro - actually I was hoping (by the time the sand unclogs his system) that he could be visiting YOU!
Melissa - yes, yes we do! And thanks for the baby powder tip! I had NEVER heard that and spent last night cleaning out the car.
Diana - Oh come on, I know you still dip your sandwiches in the dirt!
Sarah - yeah! We are connected via blog land. Now let's get connected by phone!
I love that he eats it...right out of the sand!
